Banner Hydro Year, Cool Spring, Put Downward Pressure on Energy Prices
April 2011
Power prices are dropping as record hydropower generation continues to dampen power values. Abundant snowpack in the Sierras, Pacific Northwest and British Columbia means plentiful hydropower will be available throughout the summer. California snowpack, as of April 28, was at 171 percent of historical average. California’s relatively robust in-state hydro resources should allow the state to reduce Northwest power imports and associated costs. Cooler than normal temperatures in April have also reduced energy usage and costs. |
